Bloodthirsty Redfall fans finally have a release date for Arkane's co-op shooter, announced at the Xbox Developer Direct, heading our way on May 2, 2023.
We got an in-depth look at Redfall courtesy of the Dishonored developer during the Xbox and Bethesda 2023 livestream, that showed off more of the island, and how players will take on game's vampires and cultists. The big news, of course, was the Redfall release date, set for May 2 this year. With Minecraft Legends release date falling just a month prior, it's going to be a packed couple of months for those of you who love a bit of multiplayer.
Redfall is certain to scratch the itch of fans of Left 4 Dead, Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide, and Back 4 Blood; it's a co-op shooter for up to four players who are out to clean up an island plagued with vampires and their loyal cultists. There are home bases, and safe houses littering the island, and climactic escapes from collapsing vampire nests your team has just destroyed. Fast-paced and frenetic, as someone still pining for a new entry in the Left 4 Dead series, I can't wait.

The Redfall deep dive is an 11-minute video just bursting with juicy gameplay details. The The island town of Redfall, Massachusetts is an open-world that's Arkane's "largest setting ever." And if you appreciated the top-notch environmental storytelling of the Dishonored series, then boy howdy, is Redfall going to impress.
The locations themselves look ripe for a good poking around; there's the 'once-bustling' downtown, the haunted forest, and the 'decimated seaside boardwalk' to name a few. You can resupply and talk to survivors at safe havens across the island, like the fire station home which acts as a home base and a mission pickup point.
We got a look at some different enemy types, like The Shroud, which blankets the area in darkness, hurl projectiles, and shift through the ground to avoid damage. Of course, you can't just get away with going on a vampire-killing spree with no repercussions. There's vampire gods out there who are going to get mighty incensed at your antics. When they've had enough of the carnage, they'll summon an enemy called the Rook to punish you for your sins. And you've been veeeery bad.
The Redfall gameplay deep dive also includes map encounters, character abilities and how they synergise with one another, and more on the gameplay outside of the main mission. The objective of this mode it take back Redfall "neighbourhood by neighbourhood". You can take refuge in safe houses but ultimately need to work your way up to get to the vampire controlling a neighbourhood. Dubbed The Siphon, these are the bosses standing in the way of you clearing each area, and they won't go down easy.
Redfall can be played in single-player as well as co-op and it looks like a blast. It's coming to Xbox Series X|S and PC on May 2, 2023.
