Redeveloped ITPO complex for G-20 leaders meet to be inaugurated on July 26

Parking space has been provided for over 5,500 vehicles at the redeveloped ITPO complex, spread over 123 acres.

The redeveloped India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) complex, which is the venue for the G-20 leaders’ meeting in September, will be inaugurated here on July 26. It will most likely be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The IECC (Integrated Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre) has been built as a modern complex as part of the Pragati Maidan redevelopment project.

The proposal was first approved by the government in January 2017 at a total cost of ₹2,254 crore keeping in mind the needs of the growing MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) sector in the country.

According to government sources, with a campus area of about 123 acres, the complex will be one of the largest MICE destinations. The ITPO is a body under the aegis of the Commerce Ministry.

Salient features

Among the salient features of the new complex are a convention centre with a seating capacity of 7,000 and a magnificent amphitheatre for performances, cultural shows and entertainment events which will have a seating capacity of 3,000.

The sources said that in terms of the covered space available for events, the redeveloped and modern IECC Complex finds its place among the top 10 Exhibition and Convention Complexes in the world like the Hannover Exhibition Centre in Germany and the National Exhibition and Convention Centre (NECC) in Shanghai.

The exhibition halls offer seven innovative spaces for showcasing products, innovations, and ideas. These state-of-the-art halls provide an ideal platform for exhibitors and companies to engage with their target audience, fostering business growth and networking opportunities, they said.

There is also a provision for parking space for over 5,500 vehicles.

G-20 summit

The G-20 Leaders’ Summit is set to take place in Delhi on September 9-10. It would be the culmination of all the G-20 meetings held throughout the year.

India took over as the chair of the year-long G-20 presidency in December, 2022.

The Group of Twenty (G-20) comprises 19 countries (Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Türkiye, United Kingdom and United States) and the European Union.
