Manchester United fans have hailed Fred for unexpectedly opening the scoring in their side's clash with Tottenham.
The Brazilian, who has struggled for minutes this season, recorded his first goal of the campaign two minutes after the break, finding the net partly thanks to a deflection off Ben Davies. The midfielder was a surprise selection for the match.
Fred started in place of the unwell Christian Eriksen in Sunday’s goalless draw with Newcastle and endured a fruitless display, missing a glorious chance late on. Eriksen made the bench for the Spurs clash and Fred retained his place ahead of Scott McTominay in spite of Sunday’s showing.

He put in a much better showing against Tottenham, justifying his selection with a fantastic first half. The 29-year-old also began the second half in blistering form, slotting home after Jadon Sancho's lay-off to strike first blood.
United fans on Twitter praised the Brazilian, who before Sunday hadn’t started a league game since the 4-0 defeat to Brentford. Some were surprised to see his name on the scoresheet given his previous form and lack of game time while others pointed to supporters' previous criticism of the player.
