Red Star Belgrade defender Cristiano Piccini was left stunned by Rangers’ sensational Europa League triumph over Borussia Dortmund.
That’s why the Italian says being paired with the Ibrox side in the last 16 was one of the WORST draws they could have got.
Piccini believes Gio van Bronckhorst’s side’s 6-4 aggregate win over the Germans has shown Rangers to be one of Europe’s top teams.
And the 29-year-old says the Serbians will need to defend for their lives in the first leg in Glasgow before trying to knock Gers out in Belgrade.
The former Real Betis, Valencia and Sporting Lisbon right back said: “At this moment in the competition, any rival is dangerous.
“But it’s clear that we’ve got one of the worst teams possible in Rangers because they are in such good form right now.
“I couldn’t believe they knocked Borussia Dortmund out in the last 16.
“That has demonstrated to me the huge level Rangers are at and this will not be a comfortable match for us.
“The key for us in these games will be to stop Rangers scoring because they are dangerous in attack, as they showed against Dortmund.
“But it’s not easy to score against us this season.
“So if we maintain a good score in Glasgow, it will increase our chances of winning at home.
“I don’t expect the same kind of game Rangers had against Dortmund with lots of goals. That is not our style of match.”
