Red Star bite back at Rangers underdog tag as striker warns 'we won our group for a reason'

Firing Red Star Belgrade striker Ohi Omoijuanfo knows his team are second favourites to make the Europa League quarter-finals.

But he's warned Rangers they are no pushovers - and won their group for a reason.

Omoijuanfo has been in fine form since his January arrival from Molde with four goals in his first five appearances.

He's yet to taste Euro action for his new team but hasn't suffered defeat either having won each of his Serbian Super League games since joining.

They'll face Giovanni van Bronckhorst's team at Ibrox on Thursday before next week's return leg in Belgrade.

Omoijuanfo knows it'll be tough but his team stormed through a Europa League group with Braga, Ludogorets and FC MIdtjylland to earn a bye to this stage.

And as they dream of repeating their famous 1991 campaign when they eliminated Rangers and went all the way, the Norwegian striker has warned Rangers their impressive group form was no fluke.

He said: "We are aware of the importance of the match on Thursday, but it is only the first half. We are hosting a great team, which is, for a reason, the most trophy-winning club in Scotland and the current champion.

"On top of all that, they eliminated Borussia Dortmund and showed quality in their last European game.

"On the other hand, we finished first in the group for a reason, so it will be a very interesting fight. My teammates told me that we also played with Rangers in 1991, when we became European and world champions, so this duel will be of special importance for the fans as well.

"The goal in Glasgow is to achieve the best possible result before the rematch in Belgrade, and I believe that we will succeed in that."
