The Red Sox announced they fired chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom on Thursday after four years with the team. Boston also announced that general manager Brian O’Halloran was offered a new position within the organization, but the general manager will take over for Bloom on an interim basis.
Boston hired Bloom after the 2019 season just a year after they won the 2018 World Series. In the previous three years under Bloom, Boston made the playoffs once and finished in last place twice, and the Red Sox are currently tied with the Yankees for last place in the AL East this year.
“While parting ways is not taken lightly, today signals a new direction for our club,” owner John Henry said in a statement. “Our organization has significant expectations on the field and while Chaim’s efforts in revitalizing our baseball infrastructure have helped set the stage for the future, we will today begin a search for new leadership.”

Despite winning two World Series titles in the last decade, the Red Sox will be on their fifth front office regime since 2011 once they hire Bloom’s replacement.
