Millions of Brits will put on their red noses and come together to raise money for various charitable causes as part of Comic Relief's Red Nose Day.

Comic Relief, which has raised more than £1 billion since its founding in 1985, continues to make Red Nose Day a fun celebration where plenty of money is raised for good causes.

With several fundraising events set to place around the country as part of the day, here's all you need to know about Red Nose Day, including when it is this year, the history of Comic Relief, who will be part of the TV special and where to buy noses in the UK.

When is Red Nose Day 2022?

Red Nose Day 2022 falls on Friday March 18. Until last year, the event was held every other year, but from now will be held annually.

The run-up to the day typically involves fundraising events across the UK for charity Comic Relief.

The event will be celebrated with a special three-hour telethon bringing several beloved UK celebrities together in an effort to raise money to end child poverty in the UK and globally. Viewers will also be encouraged to pitch donations during the show.

Who will be part of the Red Nose Day 2022 show?

The Red Nose Day 2022 TV show will include Sir Lenny Henry, Paddy McGuinness, David Tennant, Alesha Dixon and Zoe Ball.

Others featuring on the night will be Olympic swimmer Tom Daley, this year's Strictly Come Dancing winners Rose Ayling Ellis and Giovanni Pernice as well as Fresh Meat and Bad Education, Jack Whitehall, David Walliams and Matt Lucas.

A special edition of The Repair Shop with Dawn French and a one-off sketch with Kylie Minogue and the cast of hit BBC sitcom Ghosts will be part of the show.

The Comic Relief show this year will air on BBC One starting at 7pm on Friday.

What is the history of Red Nose Day?

This year marks the 36th anniversary of Red Nose Day.

The first Red Nose Day was celebrated on February 8 1988, three years after the inception of Comic Relief in 1985.

Hosted by Sir Lenny Henry, the event managed to raise more than £15 million, establishing Comic Relief as a major fundraising occasion.

After the first Red Nose Day, the charity has raised over £1 billion in support of various charitable projects not just in the UK, but around the world as well.
