Red Lion in Prestwick unveils 'country pub' style plans and launches search for new staff

It is the Ayrshire bar famed for being the birthplace of the Open golf championship.

Now Prestwick's Red Lion is set for a bold new look as owners prepare to put a "country pub style" twist on their offering.

Back in 1851, the bar at the town's Cross hosted a meeting of golfers led by greenkeeper Old Tom Morris.

Nine years later, and just a few hundred yards down the road, their Old Prestwick course would host the inaugural Open event.

The bar has retained its charm and history ever since, and is now set for a brand new direction.

Posting on their Facebook page, The Red Lion said: "Four years ago when we took a pub that had been lying empty for months we hoped we were able to turn its fortunes around.

"We knew Prestwick needed this pub to be restored to its former glory.

"Slowly but surely we’ve built a fantastic “local” pub where the food was fresh, the beer was cold and all were welcome.

"We’ve given our designer the task of creating modern country pub style restaurant that still has the warm welcoming feel that a local should. We think she has nailed it!

"We’re looking for staff of all levels, including management, to come join us as we aim to take our service standard to the next level."
