Red-faced Dan Walker forced to make correction after fans spot X-rated typo in tweet

Dan Walker has been left red faced as he was forced to make a correction following an unfortunate typo in a tweet.

Strictly Come Dancing star Dan, 45, had accidentally written the word "dogging" instead of "digging" as he discussed his new Channel 5 show, Digging for Treasure in a tweet shared on Saturday.

Former BBC Breakfast star Dan's first tweet read: "Fantastic response to Dogging For Treasure last night and great figures! Thanks for watching and for the feedback. We are filming again today - with a little less clapping - and celebrating with a snack of choice

"See you next Friday at 9 @michaelastracha @Raksha_Digs @dfttc5".

Dan, 45, then shared a photo of him stood alongside Michaela Strachan and Raksha Dave in the photo taken during filming of the programme, where Dan teams up with metal detectorists, mudlarkers and marine archeologists to look for treasure under our feet.

Twitter users were quick to notice the X-rated blunder and react in the comments as one joked: "Dogging For Treasure, where Dan walker and I hide antiques in secluded woodland carparks......"

Another added: "Gosh Dan, is there anything else you'd like to share love."

"Thank god Twitter doesn’t have an edit button," a third wrote.

And a fourth questioned: "A tremendous typo, or a really new departure for @danwalker here x".

Shortly after the tweet, Dan noticed his mistake and clarified in a separate tweet: "DIGGING DIGGING DIGGING".

It comes after Dan responded to fans' complaints about his new Channel 5 show as it launched this week.

The first episode saw Dan and Michaela set up camp in North Yorkshire and later search in the shadow of a ruined castle as they were joined by a cheering audience.

Viewers weren't impressed by the clapping as one wrote: "No need for all the clapping and cheering. Real turn off."

Another wrote: "I enjoyed seeing all the finds but the whooping & the clapping not so much." A third added: "Completely confused by all the clapping and cheering. Why is that happening? #DiggingForTreasure."

Dan later responded to complaints as he wrote: "Thanks for watching and for the feedback. We are filming again today – with a little less clapping – and celebrating with a snack of choice."

It comes after Dan announced his decision to quit BBC Breakfast after 13 years on the programme.

Appearing in a video on Twitter, shared by Channel 5 News, he told viewers: "Hello, it's Dan here. I have a little bit of news for you. In the next few weeks, I'm going to be leaving BBC Breakfast and moving to 5 News and to Channel 5.

"I'm really excited but this has also been a massive decision for me because I love BBC Breakfast, I love working alongside Sally [Nugent] and I love the team there.

But Channel 5 came with big ambitions, with big plans and I don't think opportunities like this come around very often and I can't wait.

"I've also had the incredibly privilege of working on some iconic programmes over the last few years, both at the BBC and elsewhere and what I love about this deal is I not only get to present the news, but also host a whole range of programmes right across the channel."
