Red Brick Market offering inclusive classes to help young people build careers

Red Brick Market in the Baltic Triangle is offering young people inclusive classes to help build themselves a professional profile.

The aim is to help young people who may not follow a path in education continue to pave a course for themselves in whatever profession they desire. 16 - 19-year-olds are the target demographic but anyone who finds the project helpful is welcome.

The likes of bookkeeping, social media management, business, and tax management courses will be offered alongside basic maths and English classes, with the latter specifically geared towards those who may not have made it through traditional GCSE routes.

Christopher Day, the director of Foundations and Red Brick Market, told the Echo: "Colleges are overstretched and can't manage these learners at the minute. There doesn't seem to be as many options for these people as there used to be and we wanted to do something about it.

"We have a [dedicated team] currently writing the curriculum along with DAM Health who are supplying medical courses. They'll be offering entry-level nursing courses because once again the likes of the NHS aren't able to supply this at the moment because they're so stretched out. We have so much more to come but we're still trying to sort out the fine details before we can make a formal announcement."

The team behind the project are continuing to apply for funding in order to build as many varying courses as possible. The classes will be housed directly in Red Brick Market's new venue, still situated in the Baltic Triangle's Cain's Brewery area, at 70 Stanhope Street.

Courses are scheduled to begin at the end of summer with all free to attend. Information on how to sign up will be available from schools, colleges, job centres and other training providers closer to the launch.
