Red Arrows flying near Greater Manchester this weekend - where and when you can see them

The famous Red Arrows will be taking flight again this weekend as part of their busy summer schedule. A planned appearances at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo on Friday was cancelled due to adverse weather - but spectators at the Blackpool Airshow will get to see the RAF jets on both Saturday and Sunday.

As the planes head to their destinations, they will fly near and over Greater Manchester this weekend. Lucky attendees at the Blackpool Airshow will get the chance to see the RAF jets twice, with displays on Saturday and Sunday, while they will also fly over Whitby Regatta and Warton on Saturday.

However, if you can't make it to the events themselves there's no need to worry. Some in Greater Manchester will still be able to catch a glimpse of the Red Arrows in flight, in some cases from their back garden.

On Saturday, the Red Arrows will set out from RAF Scampton shortly at 1.15pm, and appear above the Whitby Regatta for a display at 1.30pm, returning to their base a little over half an hour later.

The jets will then set out again later in the afternoon for a display above Blackpool at 5pm, with a flypast at Warton at around 5.30pm as they head to their overnight base at Blackpool Airport, according to the Military Airshows website.

The crews are expected to be over Lancashire, near Belmont, Darwen and Rivington just after 5.25pm today (Saturday, August 13). Here is their route as they go to the Blackpool display and Warton flypast:

The Red Arrows are the aerobatic display team of the RAF – officially known as the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team. Formed in 1964, their flypasts have become must-see events, and the displays often grace major national commemorations, including the most recent Platinum Jubilee.

Made up of nine red jets, they entertain crowds with their perfect formation flying and daring manoeuvres, often accompanied with their hallmark red, white and blue smoke trailing behind them. They are currently based at RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire, but will be relocated to RAF Waddington later this year.
