'Recruitment ad' for Irish Defence Forces ‘so bizarre’ people can’t believe it’s real

A new recruitment advert for the Irish Defence Forces has gone viral after being uploaded to TikTok on Friday.

The 45-second clip, which features Irish dancers The Gardiner Brothers, has been labelled as “so bizarre” by some.

It begins with impressive drone shots which eventually show the brothers Irish dancing to Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes.

Later on, dozens of people dressed in army gear holding red guns run past the dancing brothers.

A smoke machine is also dramatically used at times, while two army tanks also feature.

The clip has racked up almost 50,000 views on the official Irish Defence Forces TikTok in just two days, with hundreds of people taking time to comment.

It appears to have divided opinion with some enjoying it, while others “can’t believe it is real”.

One person wrote: “I refuse to believe this is real, no army would embarrass themselves like this” along with a laughing face emoji.

Another asked: “What’s with the toy guns hahaah.”

Someone else joked: “What does sweet baby Jesus is going on in the Curragh army camp.”

Others praised the apparent recruitment ad as “lovely”, “nice” and “nice job lads”.

The Gardiner Brothers, who have more than 2.4 million TikTik followers, also commented: “Absolutely sick! Loved making this with you all. Can’t wait to see more.”

The video also made itself on to the popular Ireland Reddit website, with the heading: "This is a genuine recruitment ad for the Irish Defence Forces" along with a laughing face emoji.
