An employment recruiter has shared a hilarious ‘Gen Z’ email she received that left her laughing - as it was from a client who was rejected after a job interview and seemed unimpressed.
TikTok user Samantha said that her sister, Hannah, worked as a recruiter and had landed a series of interviews for a client who was unfortunately unsuccessful.
The client didn’t manage to secure the job and Hannah let them know over email, then soon she had a reply that had no text and just one image.
The client, who remains anonymous, sent a meme in response - and it’s now been branded ‘the most Gen Z’ way to handle a job rejection.
In the video, Samantha, who uploads as @samantha_jane_, said: “Of course, in recruitment, you have to occasionally tell candidates they weren’t successful in getting the job.
“This one candidate, who Hannah had done a round of interviews with, she didn’t get the job so Hannah emailed her and told her she hadn’t been successful.
“And instead of replying and being like, ‘OK, yeah, thanks for letting me know’ or whatever, this girl sends Hannah a meme, which is the most Gen Z thing I’ve seen.”
The meme in question features a painting of Pope Leo X by Fernando Botero, with the popular internet phrase ‘y tho’ written in white letters over the classical artwork.
Samantha continued: “No context, no other text, just the meme. I love it so much.”
Samantha’s video has been viewed over 600,000 times and many TikTok users had sympathy for the job seeker, according to Mirror Online.
One said: “Honestly I think they missed out on not hiring her.”
And another wrote: “I love how it wasn’t even small. It’s the WHOLE PAGE”
Then a third added: “I would’ve found her a job after that.”
“Not me just learning you’re meant to reply to rejections,” commented a fourth user. “I just read them then wipe my whole mind of the experience.”
