Record number of new Covid cases Thursday

The country registered 38 more Covid-19 fatalities and the new high of 23,557 new cases during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry announced on Thursday morning.

There were 23,329 local cases and 228 imported ones.

On Wednesday, 16,131 Covid-19 patients left hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 2,794,350 Covid-19 cases, including 570,915 cases this year, with 2,590,589 complete recoveries to date.

The  death toll stood at 22,768 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 1,070 so far this year.

The highest number of Covid-related fatalities in a 24-hour period was 312 recorded on Aug 13. The previously highest number of cases was 23,418 on Aug 18.
