Turkey sees record numbers of UK tourists thanks to its cheap holiday deals

The equivalent of one in every 22 people in the UK will have visited Turkey by the end of the year, it is estimated.

The country's tourist board say it is on track to welcome three million visitors from the UK in 2022 - the highest number since records began.

In the first nine months of 2022, Turkey received 2.8 million UK visitors, a full 0.24million more than the same time period in 2019.

With 67 million people currently living in the UK, 4.5% of the population may have visited Turkey by the end of the year, if each person only went once.

Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, Minister of Culture and Tourism, said: “Going into 2022, we already had great confidence in the UK market.

"These numbers not only exemplify the importance of the UK to Türkiye but highlight our country’s appeal as a year round destination for British visitors.”

Turkey's government hopes that 50 million tourists from across the world will have visited the country by the end of 2022.

As well as its many stunning beaches and historical cities, Turkey is a very population destination to visit this year because of the lira.

The country's currency has fallen massively in value against the dollar and pound, meaning trips their are particularly cheap.

Generally if you're looking for a cheap and cheerful place to spend a long afternoon by the Mediterranean or the pool, then Marmaris and Bodrum are top of the list.

Both have miles of amazing coastline and restaurants serving delicious Turkish food, and cater well to English speaking visitors.

According to holiday company On the Beach, many trips to Turkey have bucked inflationary trends and are cheaper now than in 2019.

Top of the list was Dalaman, Turkey, where the average price of an all-inclusive, seven-night stay at the four-star Nicholas Park Hotel in Dalaman is £234 per person in 2023, a 42% decrease in average cost since 2019.

In a boost to people heading to the country for their holidays, in June Turkey dropped its final Covid measures.

That meant visitors were no longer required to show a negative Covid test or proof of vaccination if they're planning to visit for tourism.

Here are 13 more seven-day, per-person deals in Turkey that are cheaper to buy now than before the pandemic.
