Recent weather events in Florida have shattered records and caused significant impacts on coastal cities in the state. Naples, Florida, experienced storm surge levels that reached the second-highest on record, with water levels surging more than 5.2 feet above normal high tides. This surge was only surpassed by the levels seen during Hurricane Ian in 2022. Just a few weeks prior, during Hurricane Helene, Naples saw 5.12 feet of water inundation.
Meanwhile, St. Petersburg, Florida, faced an extraordinary rainfall event, with a 1-in-1000 year occurrence resulting in 18.31 inches of rain falling in a single day. This marked the rainiest day on record for the city, nearly tripling the previous record set on September 1, 2001.

The heavy rainfall also led to widespread flooding in the Tampa area, prompting a flash flood emergency that affected over three million residents. The combination of storm surge and intense rainfall has highlighted the vulnerability of coastal cities in Florida to extreme weather events.
