Record-breaking December at southern border, highest monthly total ever

Record-breaking December at southern border with over 286,000 migrants encountered.

In a stunning revelation, new data has shown that the month of December witnessed a record-breaking surge of migrants at the southern border. According to sources from the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the number of encounters with migrants in December exceeded a whopping 286,000 individuals. This staggering figure marks the highest monthly total ever documented. Since the start of the fiscal year in October, over 770,000 migrants have been encountered, with 83,000 classified as 'gotaways,' meaning they were observed or detected but not apprehended.

Surprisingly, December, historically considered a slower month for border activity, has defied expectations this year. Despite the administration's claims that this level of migration is typical, the situation at the southern border remains disastrous. Border Patrol Council Vice President emphasized the lack of political will and indifference exhibited by the current administration towards the issue. He accused them of turning a blind eye to the escalating crisis, creating an environment that encourages more individuals to cross the border illegally.

Adding to the existing complications, several states, like California, have introduced welfare programs for undocumented immigrants, which inadvertently act as magnets, attracting even more people to enter the country illegally. Critics argue that this administration is disregarding the consequences of their actions, namely the increasing poverty that ensues from their policies. Many of these migrants have nowhere to go, leading them to seek refuge in sanctuary cities and prompting those cities to request additional funding to support their presence.

The control over the US-Mexico border has undeniably slipped from the administration's grasp. Despite recent talks between the US and Mexican governments to address the root causes of migration, including a commitment of $4 billion, there has been a lack of visible impact on the situation. Officials admit that these meetings merely give the illusion that efforts are being made, while the reality remains that enforcing border laws and detaining individuals until they can prove their case would be more effective in reducing the influx. Unfortunately, the administration seems unwilling to pursue these measures.

The situation at the southern border extends beyond Central American and Mexican migrants, as the CBP data reveals that almost half of the encounters involve individuals from other countries. While discussions primarily focus on addressing the root causes of migration in the Northern Triangle countries, such as Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras, it seems the administration may be missing the mark by not addressing the evolving problem caused by migrants from other nations.

Texas has taken a bold step by enacting legislation that empowers the state to arrest migrants and return them to the border. While the efficacy of this move remains uncertain due to potential legal challenges, many commend Governor Abbott for his proactive approach. The measure is not merely a Texas-centric effort, but one that aims to deter individuals from crossing the border illegally and protect the country as a whole.

As the numbers continue to surge and record-breaking figures become the norm, it is evident that the government's current approach is failing to address this pressing issue effectively. Urgent action is required to regain control over the southern border and protect the welfare of both migrants and American citizens.
