The Society of St Vincent de Paul received a record 191,000 calls for help last year — and the charity is now seeking volunteers to support its vital work.
SVP received just over 191,000 calls for help last year, a 12 per cent increase compared to 2020, from people across the country. It is now seeking volunteers as it prepares for a full return to home visits.
The much-needed volunteers will primarily focus on home visits to people in need who are linked in with one of the 900 SVP visiting branches throughout the country.
SVP’s 240 shops are in need of volunteers to carry out or assist in general shop duties and to ensure customers are the priority at all times through the delivery of exceptional customer service.
Volunteers with experience and knowledge in the areas of Architecture, Engineering, Surveying, Health and Safety, Social Work and Social Care are also being sought to help people in need of social housing.
People with knowledge of technical support are needed to provide professional data management and finance support for SVP conferences and to ensure visiting branches capture and record important data that improves their ability to assist people, while also adhering to relevant legislation such as GDPR.
Volunteers can also share their time and skills in one of the SVP youth clubs, community resource centres, or holiday homes.
