Reclusive Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis looks drastically different after years out of spotlight

Hollywood actor Daniel Day-Lewis has been spotted out in public for the first time in years, with the My Left Foot Oscar-winning actor looking almost unrecognisable.

The British actor, 66, looked worlds away from his former self as he was spotted out on a stroll with his wife, Rebecca Miller, for the first time in four years.

Daniel has remained out of the spotlight since his retirement from acting in 2017, and after being spotted in New York City this week alongside his gorgeous wife Rebecca, 60, the Academy Award winning actor looked like a different person as he rocked a new hairstyle and a casual look.

On his recent stroll in New York City, Daniel wore his long grey wispy locks underneath a green baseball cap, while he wore a pair of oversized glasses on his face.

The retired actor opted for a light blue denim shirt and a pair of baggy grey trousers which he paired with brown boots.

Meanwhile, Daniel's wife Rebecca, who he has been married to since 1996, looked elegant in a crisp white blouse and tailored black trousers as she walked beside her husband.

Since stepping out of the limelight, Daniel appears to have fully embraced a 'normal' life - never attending screenings, or ever even being seen in public.

Daniel announced he no longer wanted to make movies after he starred in the critically acclaimed Phantom Thread - later going into retirement.

Although the incredibly talented actor never explained his reasoning for quitting acting, his Daniel’s spokeswoman said at the time: "Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be working as an actor.

“He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years.

"This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on this subject."

Following his decision to retire from his stellar acting career in 2017, Daniel admitted that he felt compelled to step down as an actor despite being in 'great sadness' about his decision.

Speaking to W magazine, the My Left Foot actor explained: “'The impulse to quit took root in me, and that became a compulsion. It was something I had to do.

“Do I feel better? Not yet. I have great sadness. And that’s the right way to feel.

“When I began, it was a question of salvation. Now, I want to explore the world in a different way,” he candidly shared with the outlet.

Often described as one of the preeminent actors of his generation, he received numerous accolades throughout his career which spanned over four decades, including three Academy Awards, four BAFTA Awards, three Screen Actors Guild Awards and two Golden Globe Awards.
