A Hamilton driver has narrowly avoided a prison sentence after trying to knock down a pedestrian.
Christopher Butterwick's reckless actions also forced two women to jump clear to avoid being hit by his car.
Butterwick, 43, of Craigburn Street appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.
He admitted assaulting the pedestrian by speeding towards him on Low Waters Road, near Strathaven Road, Hamilton.
The incident took place in October 2018.
Defence agent Jackson Bateman said there had been "difficulties" between the men.
He added: "My client accepts responsibility for his actions.
"He is not someone who finds himself in trouble regularly and I would ask the court to treat this as a one-off.
"He works full-time in the IT industry."
Butterwick appeared in court on crutches, but Mr Bateman stressed: "Unpaid work is available and he could perform light duties such as working in a charity shop."
Sheriff Colin Dunipace ordered Butterwick to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work.
He will also be electronically tagged for five months, meaning he's confined to his home between 7pm and 7am each day.
The sheriff told him: "Anyone who effectively uses a motor vehicle as a weapon to attack other people places himself in a very difficult position.
"Custody was uppermost in my mind but, having heard what has been said on your behalf, and having regard to your lack of record, I am just convinced I can step back from that."
Butterwick was warned that if he breaches either of the orders he can expect a prison sentence of 16 months.
