Former Leeds United goalkeeper Kiko Casilla has sealed a move to a new club following his release from the Whites last month. Casilla has joined La Liga outfit Getafe to return back to his native Spain.
The 35-year-old did still have 12 months left to run on his contract at Leeds, but the two parties came to a mutual agreement to end his deal early. And it has not taken him too long to find a new club, moving back to Madrid with Getafe the destination.
In truth, Casilla’s future had been over for over a year up until his release in July, spending last season on loan at Elche. He made 16 appearances for the club last season, though only two of those came after the month of October after being dropped to the bench.

Casilla played 62 times for Leeds during his three-and-a-half years at Elland Road, featuring heavily during the club’s promotion to the Premier League. His time at the club was overshadowed by an eight-match ban picked up in a fixture with Charlton Athletic for an alleged racist remark.
But after opening the door to another chapter in his career, Casilla revealed his excitement at his new challenge. He said: “[I am] Very excited to be joining this exciting project! A new challenge in my career that makes me feel with the same motivation or more than when I started professional.
“Thank you very much to everyone and I am convinced that with this group and this hobby we will achieve all our goals!”
