Nearly 138,000 platform beds sold at major retailers such as Amazon and Walmart are being recalled in the U.S. and Canada due to safety concerns. The Utah-based importer CVB Inc. is recalling Lucid-branded platform beds with upholstered square tufted headboards after reports of sagging, breaking, or collapsing during use.
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, there have been 245 incidents in the U.S., resulting in 18 injuries like contusions and bruises. In Canada, 11 reports of bed failures have been noted, with no additional injuries reported.
The recall affects a discontinued version of Lucid's platform beds manufactured between 2019 and 2021. Despite production ending several years ago, these beds were still available for purchase at major retailers until April 2024. Consumers may have bought these beds from various outlets, including Bed Bath & Beyond, eBay, Home Depot, Macys, Target.com, Wayfair, and others.
About 137,000 beds were sold in the U.S. and 890 in Canada. The beds, made in Malaysia, come in twin, full, queen, king, and cal-king sizes and can be identified by a white law label on the back of the headboard with the manufacturer's information.
Consumers who have these recalled beds are advised to discontinue use immediately and contact Lucid for a free replacement frame. To facilitate the replacement process, individuals need to mark the bed's support rails with the word “recalled” using a permanent marker and provide photos to Lucid.
