Rebel Wilson splits opinions as BAFTA host as she takes swipes at Royal Family and Leonardo DiCaprio

Australian actress and comedian Rebel Wilson, known for her roles in Pitch Perfect and Bridesmaids, hosted the BAFTAs for the first time on Sunday.

Previously Rebel has hosted the 2013 MTV Movie Awards and most recently the comedy show LOL: Australia, however not all fans were impressed with her BAFTA performance.

With swipes at the Royal Family and Leonardo DiCaprio, some viewers found her performance awkward and hard to watch.

At one point, she made a joke about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's infamous interview with Oprah Winfrey. She said: "From drama, to horror, to fantasy... Harry and Meghan's interview with Oprah had it all."

The comedian was met with some awkward laughs and cringing looks from the audience.

The 42-year-old however did hit the right note by giving Russian President Vladamir Putin the middle finger and some have loved her performance.

But overall viewers remained unconvinced at parts including a cringey moment with a Benedict Cumberbatch cake, and have taken to Twitter to air their opinions.

One said: "Rebel Wilson, someone make it stop. Cringe."

Another said: "Rebel Wilson is not funny, this baftas is so hard to watch her jokes and poor attempts to be funny."

A third said: "Watching Rebel Wilson present the #BAFTA2022 truly is to watch a very slow car crash. Excruciating."

Another added: "#BAFTA2022 Off-colour gender jokes, royal family jibes and references to things that shouldn’t happen pre-watershed… is there no start to the humour in Wilson’s script?"

Others however, jumped to her defence, as one viewer said: "RebelWilson did a mighty fine job tonight @BAFTA a job you can never do well: host a big awards show. Pacy, funny, edgy, light and frothy - nice one. Also, if a nominee doesn't show up, fair play to be roasted #BAFTA2022"

Another added: "I'm quite enjoying Rebel Wilson presenting tonight. Like the close to the edge delivery. #BAFTA2022"
