Rebel Wilson has shared the devastating moment she was told she had "no viable embryos".

The new mum, 42, spoke candidly about the heartbreaking ordeal just days after she welcomed her daughter Royce Lillian via surrogate.

The Australian actor recalled being told her the eggs she has harvested had “not survived being thawed” while shooting her upcoming film, The Almond and the Seahorse.

Wilson told People magazine: "I’d lost a huge amount of weight and been through three surgeries at that point and no viable embryos. It was devastating.

Despite the setback, the Pitch Perfect star said that her “desire to become a mother” was “so strong” that she “needed to keep trying”.

“It was feelings of loss, feelings of hope — and it all played into my performance. It was a very emotional time,” she added.

Discussing the moment she held her daughter for the first time, Wilson said the experience was “overwhelming and exciting” after sharing the news with her fans.

She reflected: “My love for her is just overflowing. She is gorgeous and perfect.”

The star took to Instagram on Monday to share her happy news alongside a first-look at her new arrival.

“Beyond proud to announce the birth of my first child, Royce Lillian, born this past week via surrogate,” she wrote alongside the image.

“I can’t even describe the love I have for her, she’s a beautiful miracle! I am forever grateful to everyone who has been involved, (you know who you are), this has been years in the making…but particularly wanted to thank my gorgeous surrogate who carried her and birthed her with such grace and care.

“Thank you for helping me start my own family, it’s an amazing gift. The BEST gift!! I am ready to give little Roycie all the love imaginable. I am learning quickly…much respect to all the Mums out there! Proud to be in your club.”

The announcement came a day after she was forced to deny reports that she and girlfriend Ramona Agruma had got engaged.

She and the fashion designer have been dating for seven months.

Wilson confirmed the relationship in June while also simultaniolusly coming out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community after an Australian newspaper tried to out her.
