Rebel Wilson chose comedy acting roles in a bid to avoid sex scenes after weight gain

Rebel Wilson has revealed that she decided to go into comedy acting after she gained weight because it relies less on appearance to secure acting jobs.

The Australian actress, 41, first started to gain weight in twenties after amid her polycystic ovary syndrome, and as a result, she felt as though her acting career had been hindered due to her weight.

The Pitch Perfect star has recently lost over five-and-a-half stone after vowing to overhaul her lifestyle - and she's never felt better.

However, the actress, who was first made famous in her role as 'Fat Amy' said she was forced to 'embrace' her body at the beginning of her acting career as she set her sights on comedy roles.

"I knew I was a bigger girl so I was like, 'You just got to embrace it," the actress revealed.

"So that's why I went into comedy acting because I knew how much power comedians can have - people are more likely to laugh at people they don't want to have sex with."

Discussing her decision to take on roles such as Fat Amy in Pitch Perfect on the Life Uncut Podcast, Rebel continued: "Comedians often have something physical about them that's abnormal.

"Those people tend to go better in comedy, so I turned what was turned into a lot of agents as a disadvantage into my advantage."

Rebel said she chose to play Fat Amy because although she wasn't the lead character, she was the funniest role in the film.

Discussing her decision to lose weight and get healthier in 2020, Rebel said: 'I'm turning 40 I knew I can be healthier. I'm gonna make the big change and lose the excess weight, I had a lot of push-back from that.

During the podcast, Rebel also detailed the amazing changes that have happened in her life since she dropped more than 70 pounds.

The Aussie star admitted that losing weight is has 'opened doors' for her to finally make the move to dramatic acting.

"It's opened up dramatic roles which I wasn't getting considered before, which is awesome so I can really use my acting muscle.

"I still think there was some statistic, leading ladies it's less than 1 per cent of plus size actresses, there is some movement in including different body types."

Rebel first set out on her 'year of health' in 2020.

Since then, the actress has continued to amaze fans with her dedication and motivation.
