Rebekah Vardy tells Coleen to 'put your money where your mouth is' in explosive post

Rebekah Vardy shared a public message to Coleen Rooney just hours after it was confirmed she will have to pay 90% of her fellow WAG's legal costs.

The former I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! star took to her Instagram Stories to tag Coleen in a post related to the outcome of their infamous Wagatha Christie saga - seemingly urging the Liverpool-born star to donate the £800,000 she is set to receive from her to charity.

Telling Coleen to 'put your money where your mouth is', Rebekah shared an image of a jar labelled 'charity' and filled with coins with her Instagram followers, alongside an extract of a previous quote reportedly from a source close to Coleen discussing the libel drama earlier this year.

"She'd be far happier to see the money they would have spent on lawyers being used in a more positive and productive way," the quote regarding Coleen's apparent attitude to the 'Wagatha Christie' case shared with Rebekah's Instagram followers reads.

Rebekah followed up, writing: "@coleen_rooney Lets hope you put your money where your mouth is and some good can come out of this whole embarrassing spectacle."

Coleen has never commented or made any public statement regarding how sums recovered or awarded would be spent and there is no suggestion Coleen has ever pledged to donate any money to charity.

Rebekah went on to share the exact same post on a second Instagram Story moments later. Coleen is yet to publicly respond to Rebekah's latest social media update.

Rebekah's social media update today [October 4] comes as the world learns how the mum-of-five has been ordered to pay around £1.5 million in legal costs following the 'Wagatha Christie' judgement in July.

Footballer Jamie Vardy's wife sensationally lost to Coleen, 36, in July after a seven-day blockbuster trial saw a number of revelations about both women and their famous partners made public in the High Court, after Rebekah launched a libel case against her fellow WAG in 2020.

Rebekah launched libel proceedings against Coleen in 2020 after Wayne Rooney's wife accused her Instagram account of being behind leaked 'false stories' about her private life to the press - something Rebekah denied at the time and still does, despite Mrs Justice Steyn ruling in Coleen's favour.

In a statement on Tuesday, Mrs Justice Steyn stated the total legal bill - which Coleen is yet to finalise with the court - was estimated by her lawyer Paul Lunt to be around £1,667,860.48

Rebekah has been ordered to pay £800,000 within six weeks and to pay 90% of the costs, which are yet to be finalised.

Mrs Justice Steyn explained that she had done "the best" she could to "estimate the likely level of recovery" but while bearing in mind that Defendant had not yet produced a bill, the cost would be around £800,000.

She wrote of Rebekah's action: "The claim has been dismissed. The defendant succeeded in establishing that the essence of the libel was substantially true."

In addition to paying a percentage of Coleen's legal fees, Rebekah has also been ordered to pay part of the costs of seven journalists who were potential witnesses but did not actually give evidence in the trial. These costs are included in the overall figure Rebekah has been ordered to pay. Coleen has also been ordered to pay a portion of their costs.

The judgment also revealed Coleen wanted 100% of her costs paid and Rebekah wanted to pay 80%.

The document goes on to state that the defendant had originally sought payment of £1.25million but this figure was later dropped to £ 1million.

Coleen incurred total costs of more than £2 million, but £350,000 of those had already been racked up before the trial in May, so those were removed to produce a final figure of £1,667,860.
