Rebekah Vardy 'devastated' as she admits her agent could be behind leaks about Coleen Rooney

The Wagatha Christie battle has taken a new turn after Rebekah Vardy admitted her agent and close friend might have been involved in the leaks about Coleen Rooney's private life. Rebekah has said she is "devastated" that Caroline Watt could be responsible.

She said Caroline continued to deny playing any part in leaks from Coleen's Instagram account. But in a new witness statement to the High Court she said she had to “accept that it is possible that she may have had some form of involvement that I don’t know about,” reports The Mirror.

The row between the two women started in 2019 when 36-year-old Coleen accused Rebekah, 40, of leaking 'false stories' about her personal life to the media. Coleen came to the conclusion after carrying out a months-long "sting operation" to find the culprit.

Mother-of-four Coleen was dubbed 'Wagatha Christie' when she publicly claimed Rebekah - married to Jamie Vardy - was sharing personal stories she had posted on Instagram. Rebekah vehemently denies the accusations and she is suing Coleen for libel. The case has been running since 2020.

However Rebekah has now said: “The idea that my close friend and confidante would betray me in this way seems unbelievable to me and almost impossible to accept.”

In the new two page statement, she said: “I have thought about this very carefully. I find it very hard to accept that Caroline would deceive me in this way. I do not know what to think.

“I do not know what role Caroline played in relation to those articles which appear to have come from Coleen’s private Instagram account but I have to accept that it is possible that she may have had some form of involvement that I don’t know about. I still find it hard to believe given all her denials and her support to me during the case, but I can’t understand why the journalists would indicate otherwise.

“I know nothing of this and I certainly did not authorise or condone her to leak information from Coleen’s private instagram to the Sun. I am devastated by all this.

"Not only have I been libelled by Coleen but I have had to face allegations that my close friend has been involved with this, and she is in such a fragile state that I can’t even address it with her properly.”

Rebekah and Coleen's Wagatha Christie case returned to the High Court in London earlier this month as another hearing for the ongoing libel battle was held. A full trial is expected next month.
