Rebekah Vardy breaks silence on Instagram after 'Wagatha' trial

Rebekah Vardy has returned to Instagram for the first time since before a seven-day libel trial involving herself and Coleen Rooney.

In a viral social media post in October 2019, Mrs Rooney, 36, said she had carried out a "sting operation" and accused Mrs Vardy, 40, of leaking "false stories" about her private life to the press. The wife of former England star Wayne Rooney was dubbed "Wagatha Christie" when she publicly claimed an account behind three fake stories she had posted on her personal Instagram account with The S*n newspaper was Mrs Vardy's.

Two and a half years in the making, the high profile court case saw both give evidence, as well as Mrs Rooney's husband, former Everton and England footballer Wayne Rooney. Outlining Mrs Vardy's case on Tuesday May 10, her barrister Hugh Tomlinson QC told the court she had "no choice" but to bring the legal action against Mrs Rooney so she could clear her name and "establish her innocence and vindicate her reputation".

Lawyers gave their closing statements at London's Royal Courts of Justice on Friday (May 19). A verdict is expected to be delivered in the coming weeks.

After some three weeks away from social media, Rebekah Vardy posted an update this morning (Wednesday). The mum shared a snap of herself with husband, Leicester City's Jamie Vardy, and their five children.

The snap shows the family at King Power Stadium on Sunday, following Leicester's 4-1 win against Southampton. Rebekah's children wear matching kits to Jamie's.

Captioning the post, she simply used a smiling face with hearts emoji. Fans rushed to the comments section to wish the family well.

Jacqui Hodgkinson said: "A beautiful picture", while Jennie Thornton said: "Lovely family, and it was really lovely to see you all there together". Sue Cooper said: "Such a lovely family xxx".
