Reason Nico Raskin is suspended for next Rangers match

Nico Raskin will be unavailable for Rangers against Dundee due to a suspension.

The Ibrox midfielder will be forced to sit out the trip to Dens Park on Thursday, January 9 after receiving his sixth booking of the season.

Raskin was cautioned in the 3-0 win over Celtic over a confrontation with Callum McGregor - the Celtic captain was not booked.

Due to disciplinary rules, Raskin was not suspended for the match against Hibernian on January 5.

Players who pick up six yellow cards in the first 19 matches of the Scottish Premiership season receive a one-match ban.

However, that only kicks in seven days after the sixth yellow card is received meaning Raskin was free to face Hibs with his ban only coming into effect from January 9.

Raskin was previously rested by Philippe Clement with a view to keeping the midfielder free from suspension for the match against Celtic.

The Ibrox boss admitted he rotated his side for the match against St Mirren in order to keep Raskin eligible for the derby at Ibrox.

The Belgian midfielder captained Rangers to victory against Celtic but picked up his sixth booking to lead to a suspension.

Raskin was previously booked against Dundee United, St Johnstone, St Mirren, Aberdeen and St Johnstone for a second time.
