Reason Meghan Markle won't be at Coronation with Prince Harry after tough sacrifice

Meghan Markle won't be attending King Charles' Coronation - and a key factor was involved in the decision.

Prince Harry will be part of the congregation inside Westminster Abbey to witness King Charles and Queen Camilla being crowned on May 6.

Buckingham Palace has said it is pleased to announce that Harry will be there for this historic event, but his wife will remain in California with their children.

Despite being the grandchildren of the new King, it is believed that Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet were not invited, with sources citing that they are "very young".

Meghan did get an invite to the Coronation, but has decided to stay at home on May 6 - with the date causing an awkward issue as it fell on Archie's fourth birthday.

It provided a major headache for the Sussexes, who have decided that Meghan will stay to celebrate with their son.

Royal editor Omid Scobie tweeted: "I understand that Archie's fourth birthday (also on May 6) played a factor in the couple's decision.

"Expect it to be a fairly quick trip to the UK for Prince Harry, who will only be attending the coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey."

The announcement now ends months of speculation about whether or not the couple would be at the Coronation, which has been causing a lot of drama behind-the-scenes.

The Palace said in a statement: "Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that the Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on 6th May.

"The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet."

It is expected Harry will make a whistle stop trip to the UK for the big event, where he will be reunited with other members of the Royal Family.

Coronation organisers will now be able to finalise all of the arrangements, including the seating plan, security and transport.

Royal sources revealed how organisers were "exasperated" with the couple, who have spent two years railing against the monarchy after they decided to leave in favour of earning millions in the corporate world.

Last week, it was revealed that he King and Queen will celebrate their coronation by appearing on the Buckingham Palace balcony with just the working royals.

His Majesty’s decision to appear in the historic moment with just his closest and most loyal family members will show his vision of a slimmed down monarchy, royal sources said.

The final group of 15 shows there is no place for Harry now he has confirmed his attendance, along with other non-working royals such as the disgraced Prince Andrew.

Archie and Lilibet will be watching at home with Meghan, who did make an appearance at the late Queen's funeral to pay her respects.

An insider told OK! that a major sticking point was how the Sussex children Archie, three, and one-year-old Lilibet were to be included on the day.

But the source explained that their inclusion in the ceremony has "never been a bone of contention" because small children don’t attend royal events of this scale "due to restlessness and tantrums".

During the Queen's Coronation, Charles made history as the first child to witness their mother's crowning, but Princess Anne was deemed too young to attend at the age of two-years-old.

Royal historian and author Dr Tessa Dunlop previously said it would be "odd" if Archie has not been invited to the event.

She told True Royalty TV's The Royal Beat: "If you look at the footage of the 1953 Coronation, who was very prominent, albeit briefly? Prince Charles. He was four.

"Archie on his fourth birthday is definitely not too young to attend the Coronation. And if you want Meghan there, you need to invite her son."
