Reason for Connor Goldson Rangers return explained amid Aris transfer exit talks

Connor Goldson has returned to the Rangers squad for the pre-season friendly against Birmingham City.

Images shared on social media showed the centre-back alongside his team-mates preparing to board a flight down south on Tuesday.

Goldson, 31, rejoined the Rangers squad ahead of the friendly - which is being hosted at St Andrew's and is a tribute to Trevor Francis.

It has now emerged Goldson could still leave Rangers this summer with his future at the club hanging in the balance amid talks with Cypriot club Aris.

The defender had jetted out to Cyprus over the weekend, making his quickfire return to the Rangers squad a surprise.

However, The Scottish Sun claim his return is explained as discussions with Aris have been put on hold to allow Goldson to come back and feature in the friendly.

The outlets states no agreement has been reached for Aris to sign Goldson but a deal could still be reached as Aris seek to thrash out a deal.

It is added that other clubs are monitoring the situation and could step in should the proposed move to Cyprus fall through.

Birmingham City had been linked with a transfer swoop for Goldson earlier this month - and boss Chris Davies is now in line to see the defender up close this evening.

The former Celtic coach - now boss at Birmingham - had been tipped to make a summer move for Goldson.

The transfer exit talks comes after Philippe Clement admitted he has to sell players before he can further add to his squad this summer.

“That’s the reality,” Clement says when asked if his transfer plans were dependent on players leaving this summer. “That’s the reality that the board told me a few months ago.

“I know this, the recruitment team knows this also. This is the reality of the club. I had other expectations when I came in in October, I have to say.
