'Really helpful' - Rodrigo pinpoints two reasons behind Leeds United's excellent start to season

Rodrigo Moreno believes Leeds United’s excellent start to the season is down the work on the training pitch with Jesse Marsch. The Whites currently sit third in the Premier League table after picking up seven points from their opening three matches.

On a personal level, Rodrigo is also enjoying his best run of form to date in a Leeds shirt, sitting as the league’s top scorer with four goals already. Marsch arrived at Elland Road back in February with the task of keeping the club in the top-flight, which he did so by the narrowest of margins on the final day.

Given the intense nature of the relegation battle last season, Marsch was unable to really stamp his tactical authority on Leeds. This term, though, that is not the case, as the string of new signings and time on the training field during pre-season has allowed Leeds to hit the ground running.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Rodrigo thinks those two factors are what has helped make Leeds look like a team transformed in their opening three games of the campaign.

He said: “I think since Jesse arrived it was an important moment for me. A lot of things have changed since he arrived. It’s true that we finished last season in small troubles but at the end we achieved what we want to stay in the Premier League.

“This pre-season we have time to work a bit more on the style that he wants to play. He brought in new players, players who have worked with him in previous clubs as well so I think this has been really helpful for all of us.

“We just have time to work on the way he wants us to play and that’s it. Things come naturally, everyone has good confidence, everyone is happy again, everyone is enjoying what we love to do which is play football.

“Every day we come in and enjoy the atmosphere of the training ground and with responsibility of course because we are representing a big club. But at the same time, with a feeling that we enjoy again what we love to do.”
