'Really bad' - Jurgen Klopp sends message to Alexis Sanchez after Liverpool red card

Jurgen Klopp says he agreed with the referee's decision to send off Alexis Sanchez as Liverpool qualified for the quarter-finals of the Champions League against Inter.

The Italians became the first visiting side to win at Anfield this season thanks to Lautaro Martinez's second-half strike, but a 2-0 win in Italy in last month's first leg means Klopp's team qualified to the last eight at their expense.

Shortly after Martinez's goal, former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Sanchez was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Fabinho by referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz.

Klopp felt no need to discuss the incident too much after the game, saying he agreed with the Spanish official as he claimed that Fabinho was fortunate to escape injury.

"I don't understand why we have to discuss that," Klopp said.

"Because in football, if you have played football, if you can win the ball only or bring yourself into a position that can endanger the opponent then you don't win the ball. That is it.

"If Fab goes in with the same intention with the long leg, then both players get injured.

"But Fab is there because he judged the ball and [Sanchez] is not flying in then I would get it.

"But because he is flying and he touched the ball, which I think is possible, but in the end he hit Fab in a really bad way to be honest."

Klopp added: "I think [Sanchez] was quite lucky in the first half for a foul on Thiago with his leg that high.

"It was a similar situation. Passion is good, absolutely, but if it leads to this kind of thing, it just doesn't help."

Liverpool will find out their quarter-final opponents when the draw is made in Nyon on March 18.
