Real Sociedad vs Manchester United: Prediction, kick-off time, team news, TV, live stream, h2h results, odds

Real Sociedad host Manchester United in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 tie - (ES Composite)

Manchester United will look to defy a worsening injury crisis as they travel to face Real Sociedad in the Europa League this evening.

Ruben Amorim’s side are in Spain for the first leg of their last-16 tie on Thursday night and know this competition is their last hope of salvaging some positivity from an otherwise miserable season.

Holders Man Utd were knocked out of the FA Cup at home by Fulham in the fifth round on penalties on Sunday to continue their stumbling run under Amorim.

They did at least earn a bye straight through to the last 16 of the Europa League, whereas Real Sociedad had to come through an extra knockout play-off tie against FC Midtjylland of Denmark, which they won 7-3 on aggregate.

Date, kick-off time and venue

Real Sociedad vs Manchester United is scheduled for a 5.45pm GMT kick-off today on Thursday March 6, 2025.

The match will take place at the Reale Arena (AKA Anoeta) in San Sebastian, Spain.

Real Sociedad vs Manchester United team news

Martin Zubimendi came off against Barcelona with a hamstring injury over the weekend, but he has since participated in training and is expected to be fit to start.

Jon Pacheco and Arsen Zakharyan remain injured, but Jon Aramburu is available again after suspension.

United are without Manuel Ugarte and Harry Maguire, after both missed training on Wednesday with minor injuries picked up in the FA Cup against Fulham.

Chido Obi is ineligible having not been registered in the club’s Europa League squad, while the likes of Lisandro Martinez, Amad Diallo, Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount, Luke Shaw, Altay Bayindir and Jonny Evans all remain out.

Patrick Dorgu is available amid a domestic suspension, with Toby Collyer also back fit. Dorgu, Ayden Heaven and Jack Fletcher were all added to the United Europa League squad last month after the January loan exits of Marcus Rashford, Antony and Tyrell Malacia.

Real Sociedad vs Manchester United prediction

Unconvincing wins over Ipswich and Leicester is as good as it has got for United over the past month.

Real Sociedad have not been at their best this season, but were only narrowly beaten by Real Madrid last month. Goals have been a problem, with only 23 scored in 26 LaLiga matches.

With United struggling in attack themselves, it is unlikely to be a goal-fest in Spain.

Draw, 0-0.
