A simple move halfway through the first half saw Dani Carvajal chip the ball into Vinicius Jr who forced a sharp save out of Kepa Arrizabalaga only for serial goalscorer Karim Benzema to pop up and tap home the rebound to send the hosts ahead.
Chelsea attempted to force themselves into the match but Ben Chilwell’s red card early in the second half left them at a huge disadvantage.
More sloppy play from a corner allowed Marco Asensio to double Real’s lead and leave the struggling Blues with a mountain to climb next time out.
