Real Madrid vs Celtic referee revealed as Stephanie Frappart takes charge of Champions League clash

UEFA have appointed referee Stephanie Frappart to Celtic's Champions League clash with Real Madrid.

Ange Postecoglou's side head for the Bernabeu on Wednesday having already been eliminated from the tournament, but there remains palpable excitement over visiting the home of the reigning European champions. Los Blancos recorded a 3-0 win at Celtic Park on matchday one despite an impressive performance from Postecoglou's team and they're keen to take on the La Liga giants once again.

Carlo Ancelotti's superstars require a victory to be sure of winning Group F, with RB Leipzig just a single point behind as they face take on Shakhtar Donetsk in Warsaw. Celtic' s hopes of salvaging a place in the Europa League were extinguished by last week's 1-1 draw with the Ukrainians. The match will be refereed by French official Frappart, who became the first woman to take charge of a men's Champions League fixture when she oversaw Juventus' clash with Dinamo Zagreb in 2020.

Wednesday night will mark her second outing in the tournament. The experienced 38-year-old refereed the 2019 UEFA Super Cup Final between Chelsea and Liverpool and also officiated the women's World Cup Final that same year.

Frappart's regular beat is in Ligue 1 after being appointed to the referee roster in 2019. She most recently refereed the 2022 French Cup Final between Nice and Nantes. She will be assisted on the night by compatriot Benoit Millout in the VAR room.
