Arch-rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona will go all out to secure their first trophy of the year when they meet in the Supercopa de Espana final at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday, 12th January.
Barca and Madrid beat Athletic Bilbao and Mallorca, respectively, to book their place in Sunday’s mouth-watering El Clasico final.
Supercopa de Espana Final: Real Madrid vs Barcelona – Preview
Real Madrid
After a wobbly start to the season, Real Madrid have seemingly found their footing. They look better as a unit, with their defence looking solid, midfield full of poise, and attack sharp.
Los Blancos have not lost in their last eight games in all competitions, with them currently enjoying a five-game winning streak. In this period, Madrid have scored 24 goals and conceded eight times.
Real Madrid claimed a comfortable 3-0 victory over Mallorca in the Supercopa de Espana. Jude Bellingham opened the scoring before an own goal from Martin Valjent and a fine strike from Rodrygo sealed the victory.
Barcelona
Unlike their arch-rivals Real Madrid, Barcelona enjoyed a blistering start to the 2024-25 campaign. Under Hansi Flick, Barcelona racked up 11 wins in their first La Liga games, leaving some excellent teams in their wake, including Real Madrid. The Catalans beat the All-Whites 4-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, ending a four-game losing streak.
However, their hot streak only lasted until the second week of November. In their previous 11 games across competitions, Barca have won five, lost four, and drawn two. Their form in La Liga has been especially poor, as they have won only one of their last seven games, losing four and drawing two.
Barca, however, have started 2025 on a good note, beating Barbastro 4-0 in the Copa del Rey Round of 32 before clinching a 2-0 victory in the Supercopa de Espana clash against Athletic Bilbao.
