Real Madrid told why Spurs' 'consistent' Son Heung-min could have been better than Eden Hazard

Real Madrid have been told that they should have signed 'consistent' Son Heung-min. over someone like Eden Hazard as the South Korean's Spurs form in 2021/22 Premier League has been evaluated.

Los Blancos have had mixed successes in recent times with new acquisitions, with Chelsea duo Thibaut Courtois and Hazard both starting off on the wrong foot in the Spanish capital. However, the goalkeeper has resurrected his fortunes as demonstrated against the Blues over the two legs of the Champions League quarter-finals. For Hazard, though, his nightmare spell in Madrid has been summed up by a bad injury that has forced him under the knife and consequently out of the clash against his former club, whom he could only watch on from the stands.

The hefty £89million fee rising up to £100m was really a lesson for Florentino Perez and co to reassess their transfer strategy as Son Heung-min would have certainly been a slightly cheaper alternative back when the deal was conducted. But now, if Carlo Ancelotti's side were to go in for the former Bayer Leverkusen man, he would be most likely to reject this approach as he and Harry Kane are reportedly happy in N17 under the guidance of Antonio Conte.

He did admit in his BT Sport interview with Peter Crouch that he does want to play Champions League football making a top-four finish imperative for Conte and co if the Lilywhites were to scare off interest from abroad. "We are talking about a really good player. I was sure that it was normal after an injury to need time to recover to the best possible condition and get back into our idea of football again. But I was sure because Sonny for us is a really important player and at the peak of his form," explained the Italian ahead of the clash with Graham Potter's side.

"But he can improve, and that is my expectation - that he gives us from now until the end of the season and big push and to try to finish his race in the best possible way. Don't forget, one month ago I asked my best players, my more representative players, that now the team needed this type of player to take on the more important responsibilities. That role is also important for this." Spurs' head coach then went on to add regarding their number 7: "I can only enthusiastically speak about Sonny because he is not only a top player, but he is a really good guy. He is very polite and a fantastic guy. When you speak with him, not only about football, it is good.

"Every record is important, and it is important to score three goals, but only if your team wins. In the last game, if Sonny had scored three goals and we had lost 4-3, the player could not be happy. The player has to think that first of all, and I am playing for the team. We want to help Sonny to break every record, and it was the same with Harry Kane. But they know very well that the team comes before the individual's goal tally. But for sure, Sonny now is in a good moment of form and playing well. Don't forget that maybe three weeks ago, during a press conference, somebody asked me to put him on the bench to give him a rest. But they knew that football changes, no? A month ago, people answered me by saying that I had to be crazy to think of giving a rest to Sonny and put him on the bench because we are talking about a really important player for us.

"For sure, we want to help him break every record and score more goals. But, our first target has to be a team target - to try to finish this race in the best possible way." The South Korean's form is one that former Seagulls striker Glenn Murray labelled as 'consistent' with the former Premier League and Championship icon, making a surprising Real Madrid admission in the process.

"I can't believe the big clubs like Real Madrid have come knocking because he's been consistent throughout. He always produces for this football club, whether it's with or without Kane," Murray said on BT Sport ahead of Spurs vs Brighton. Jermaine Jenas added: "Nobody ever seems to come in for Son. For me, he's one of the best players in Europe. He delivers on a week-to-week basis, and he's scoring more goals. There's always been an argument that if Harry Kane's not out, do you get a better version of him? I think it's clear we don't. He strikes fear in a lot of centre-halves that he comes up against. He's definitely part of the history here."
