Real Madrid star answers Arsenal transfer question as Carlo Ancelotti sent honest message

Marco Asensio has suggested that he could sign a new contract at Real Madrid, with his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu expiring in the summer. The 27-year-old winger has been heavily linked with a move the Premier League amid an increasingly uncertain future in the Spanish capital.

He's featured 24 times for Los Blancos in La Liga this season, directly contributing towards 13 goals. The winger's impressive performances have rightfully attracted the attention of some top clubs, though it appears as if he would prefer to stay in the Spanish capital.

According to the Mirror, Asensio's agents flew to London in February to get a feel for potential interest in their client. The report states that Mikel Arteta is a fan of the Spaniard and the Gunners were among several clubs which the representatives planned on talking to.

However, now, it remains to be seen whether the north Londoners will pursue a move for Asensio, with the playmaker seemingly leaning towards staying in the Spanish capital. Speaking after Real Madrid's win over Celta Vigo at the weekend, he attributed Ancelotti for his return to form this term.

"I'm getting opportunities and I'm happy and enjoying it a lot. I'm playing consistently and that also helps a lot for my confidence," said Asensio, as quoted by Sport Mole. "You can see the day-to-day work on the pitch and the passion of the Madrid supporters certainly helps.

"I'm delighted and eager to keep this form up. The coach has put his faith in me and I'm making the most of the minutes I'm getting. I hope I can carry on like this because I enjoy being on the pitch.

"I'm pleased that things are coming off. I'm proud because the fans appreciate what I do on the pitch. I've had some difficult moments and the Madridistas have given me strength thanks to their support in the streets, on a day-to-day basis and also on social media.

"They know how I feel about this club, and being appreciated like this is comforting to me and inspires me to keep working as hard as I am doing."
