Real Madrid show off Santiago Bernabeu renovations as stadium works progress

Renovation works at Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabeu home are advancing rapidly, a new video from the club has shown.

Madrid had been due to start the modernisation of their stadium this summer, but have cracked on with construction work during the coronavirus lockdown and the project now looks set to be completed ahead of its summer 2022 deadline.

A video posted by Los Blancos on social media on Thursday showed that significant progress has been made to incorporate the ground's futuristic metal shell around the original structure.

There is also some secrecy about the work taking place inside the stadium, with fans not allowed to view the pitch areas, dressing rooms or benches as the Bernabeu Tour reopened on Thursday.

Visitors had their temperature taken and were asked to wash their hands before entering, while the use of masks on the tour is obligatory.

Madrid are playing their remaining home games this season at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano, which is based at their training ground, as works continue at the Bernabeu.
