Real Madrid's Camavinga Sidelined With Knee Injury For 6-7 Weeks

Real Madrid basketball

Real Madrid has confirmed a significant injury setback as the 2024/2025 season approaches. The club announced through its official channels that Eduardo Camavinga has suffered a sprain of the internal collateral ligament in his left knee, following tests conducted recently. The statement did not specify a definitive timeline for his recovery, but reports suggest he could be sidelined for approximately six to seven weeks.

While the injury is considered serious, it is noted that it could have been more severe. This development poses a challenge for head coach Carlo Ancelotti, who may have to navigate without Camavinga until after the October international break. The absence is expected to see Camavinga miss a total of 12 games, including the UEFA Super Cup final against Atalanta and several league and Champions League fixtures.

In Camavinga's absence, Aurelien Tchouameni is anticipated to partner with Fede Valverde in midfield, providing defensive cover for a forward trio consisting of Vinicius Jr., Jude Bellingham, and Rodrygo, with Kylian Mbappe leading the line in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

This injury marks Camavinga's most severe since a previous knee ligament tear in November 2023, which saw him sidelined for 50 days and missing 10 matches for both Real Madrid and the French national team. Ancelotti, however, has a range of midfield options to compensate for the absence, including Arda Guler, Luka Modric, and Dani Ceballos.

Ancelotti emphasized the importance of squad depth given the demanding schedule ahead, with Real Madrid potentially facing over 70 games this season. The coach highlighted the need for rotation and the contributions of all squad members, underscoring the significance of every player's role in the team's success.

As Real Madrid prepares to navigate this injury setback, the club remains focused on maintaining a competitive edge across multiple competitions, with Ancelotti's strategic approach and squad depth poised to play a crucial role in overcoming challenges on the field.
