Real Madrid is already looking ahead to the post-Carlo Ancelotti era and has reportedly chosen a replacement for the highly successful head coach. Ancelotti recently achieved a milestone by becoming the most successful head coach in Champions League history after leading Real Madrid to their 14th title in 2022.
Currently, Ancelotti has guided the team to the quarterfinals of the Champions League and holds a comfortable lead in La Liga. Despite receiving a contract extension until mid-2026, Real Madrid's president, Florentino Perez, is already planning for the future.
According to reports, the club has set its sights on former Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso as Ancelotti's successor. Alonso, who won the club's 10th Champions League title under Ancelotti in 2014, is currently managing Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.
Alonso recently confirmed his commitment to Bayer Leverkusen, stating that he has decided to continue as coach until June 30, 2026. His new contract reportedly includes a release clause that could be activated in 2025.
While it remains unclear when Real Madrid plans to bring Alonso back to the Bernabeu, speculations suggest it could happen in 2026. This potential move would ensure a smooth transition between Ancelotti and Alonso, keeping both clubs satisfied.
