Real Madrid shot stopper Thibaut Courtois stepped into a social media goalkeeper debate about Manchester United’s David de Gea.
The former Chelsea man was named man of the match in his club’s win over Liverpool in the Champions League final last month as he laid hands on the trophy for the first time. He had helped Madrid to the La Liga title a few weeks prior, having kept 16 clean sheets in the competition.
The 30-year-old has now won 15 major trophies in his career, which also include six domestic titles, three European wins and a Club World Cup triumph. Meanwhile, De Gea lays claim to one Premier League title and four cup competition victories, including two Europa League titles.

Amid United ’s dismal season De Gea managed to keep 10 clean sheets. He pulled off some vital stops during the campaign and was awarded the club’s Players’ Player of the Year award as a result.
Yet Spain boss Luis Enrique has seemingly hinted that De Gea will not be part of his plans going into the World Cup this winter. Well-known United YouTuber Mark Goldbridge reacted to his comments on Twitter, making a comparison with Courtois, claiming he isn’t good off his line or with his feet just like De Gea.
This prompted the Madrid goalkeeper himself to respond with a series of photos from the Champions League final suggesting otherwise. Responding to further claims about ball distribution, the Belgian said: “It still just shows you haven’t watched me play since I left Chelsea.
“As this year all the build up starts with me. I am not the best, but certainly not how you put me down.”
He previously underlined that he was reacting to comments about his own performance and was not aiming a dig at De Gea, saying: “I was just answering the fact that I don’t collect crosses. I would never talk bad about another goalie.”
