Real Madrid Considering Triggering Buyback Clause For Miguel Gutierrez

Real Madrid basketball

Real Madrid is currently contemplating the activation of the buyback clause for Miguel Gutierrez, as reported by AS. Gutierrez, a rising star in La Liga this season, honed his skills at the club's La Fabrica academy for nine years before making a handful of senior appearances for Los Blancos in the 2021/2022 campaign. Subsequently, he was acquired by Girona in the summer of that year.

Despite signing a five-year contract with Girona that extends until mid-2027, Real Madrid retained 50% of Gutierrez's rights and included a sell-on clause in the deal. Notably, a buyback clause was also inserted, a strategic move by president Florentino Perez in case Gutierrez excelled at Girona, which he has undeniably done.

This strategy has proven successful in the past with players like Dani Carvajal, who similarly progressed from La Fabrica, ventured to Bayer Leverkusen, and eventually returned to Real Madrid as a club icon. In the ongoing 2023/2024 season, Gutierrez has emerged as one of the standout performers for Girona, a team that has surpassed expectations by briefly topping La Liga and currently holding the second position.

Real Madrid has the option to reacquire Gutierrez for $8.75 million (€8 million) on July 1, securing one of Spain's premier left-backs at a relatively low cost. The potential transfer presents a dual opportunity for the club, as they could either integrate Gutierrez into their squad or leverage his market value by repurchasing and subsequently selling him for a substantial profit.

Given Gutierrez's impressive form, several Premier League clubs have expressed interest in acquiring him, offering lucrative deals to secure his services. A profitable transaction involving Gutierrez could significantly bolster Real Madrid's financial position, particularly as they pursue Alphonso Davies, who reportedly has a verbal agreement with the club, as per The Athletic.

If manager Carlo Ancelotti opts to include Gutierrez in his squad, the 22-year-old could serve as a valuable backup to Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies, potentially filling the void left by the potential departures of Ferland Mendy and Franc Garcia.
