Real Madrid confirm Jude Bellingham transfer as England star signs long-term deal

Real Madrid have confirmed an agreement with Borussia Dortmund on a move for Jude Bellingham, with the England star bolstering an already impressive midfield.

Dortmund had previously issued a statement of their own regarding the deal. The England star, who turns 20 at the end of the month, has agreed a six-year deal with the Spanish giants.

Madrid's deal for the teenager is understood to be worth an initial fee €103million (£88m), with a further €30m (£25m) due in potential add-ons. If all add-ons are met, the fee would surpass the record for an English player, set by Manchester City's 2021 move for Jack Grealish.

" Real Madrid CF and Borussia Dortmund have agreed on the transfer of the player Jude Bellingham, who will remain linked to our club for the next six seasons," a club statement reads.

"Tomorrow, Thursday, June 15, at 12:00 noon at Real Madrid City, the presentation ceremony for Jude Bellingham as a new Real Madrid player will take place. Next, Jude Bellingham will appear before the media."

Bellingham came through the ranks at Birmingham City before shunning Premier League interest to join Dortmund in 2020. However, he was unable to leave as a Bundesliga champion, after the title contenders fell short on the final day of the 2022-23 season.

The Bellingham deal continues a busy summer for Real Madrid. Carlo Ancelotti's side are already preparing for changes in attack, with long-serving striker Karim Benzema poised to move to the Saudi Pro League in a mega-money deal.

They have also confirmed the departure of Eden Hazard, with the Belgian star struggling since his big-money arrival from Chelsea in 2019. Marco Asensio and Mariano Diaz are also on their way out, with Spain international Asensio attracting interest from the Premier League.

Bellingham became England's third-youngest ever senior men's international when he made his debut under Gareth Southgate at the age of 17. He was part of the squad for Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup, where he scored his first senior goal for the Three Lions in a victory over Iran.

His arrival at the Bernabeu adds to what is already an impressive midfield. Los Blancos spent big to land Eduardo Camavinga in 2021, before breaking the bank for Camavinga's French international team-mate Aurelien Tchouameni last summer.

Reports from the continent have suggested a move for ex-Stoke and Newcastle striker Joselu is on the cards after his 16 goals weren't enough to save Espanyol from relegation. The 33-year-old is unlikely to be the only new arrival in attack, though, with Los Blancos continuing to be linked with other big names.

Harry Kane continues to be mentioned in connection with a switch, though the England captain's Tottenham exit is far from certain. The possibility of renewed interest in Kylian Mbappe has also been mentioned, though the player could yet remain at Paris Saint-Germain.
