Real Housewives Of Sydney Star Martine Chippendale Addresses On-Set Altercation Rumour

And just like that, the Real Housewives of Sydney are back with a new season and a new housewife, one Martine Chippendale who will be joining the iconic series for season three.

Real Housewives fans have been eagerly anticipating the third season after the tantalising spice of seasons one and two, and from what we’ve heard, season three packs the same sizzle!

Just see for yourself via the trailer below:

During filming towards the end of 2024, The Sunday Telegraph reported that an “altercation” led to production being halted.

When I spoke to Martine ahead of the cast announcement, she denied such an event ever occurred.

“Firstly, don’t believe everything that you read. And secondly, there’s spice, there’s drama. I don’t think that [the reports] can be confirmed, but I think that while that may not be true, I just think it’s a lead-up to an exciting season.”

What’s the process like of becoming a Real Housewife?

The process is usually that you will have a connection with someone on the cast, therefore a conversation will start with production and then it is a little bit like a normal recruitment process. There are stages of the interview, there is filming that goes on with other people on the show. Then it goes through a number of stages before they decide who will make the right formula and that’s how it works.

And here you are! So tell me a bit about yourself…

I am an Eastern suburbs Housewife. I am a stay at home mum, that’s my primary occupation. I live in Darling Point with my husband John and my two children and a bunch of animals. I am originally from Perth and my passions include fashion, beauty, animals, and junk food.

All the pre-requisites for being a Real Housewife! I read that you have a psychology degree, do you think that’s going to help you handle all the personalities within the group?

Yes, 100 per cent! It came in handy. I also worked in human resources for about 10 years, which is a job that’s all about dealing with people and tricky situations so I think those two things came together really well and helped me. I was very, very grateful for that.

Amazing! Tell me about the new season, I’m so excited.

Yes! So excited for everybody to watch it. I think it’s the best season yet. I think it’s got all the elements that a great Housewives season should have. It’s got the friendship, it’s got the spiciness, it’s got the high moments, it’s got the low moments, it’s got the full spectrum of the experience of women’s lives. So I think it’s just amazing, and I can’t wait for everyone to see it.

Brilliant. Did you happen to watch seasons one and two?

Sure did.

And what were your thoughts on those?

[laughs] Look, I think season one probably went a little bit far, in the direction of too much negative and not enough positive. I think season two then reset in an amazing way and introduced some amazing new Housewives. And I think that then season three just builds on the success of season two, so think we’re really excited.

No, I completely agree. And I think that was the audience’s consensus as well, that season one kind of missed the mark, but season two really brought it back on track.  I’m not sure how much you’re allowed to go into this, but who are your allies on the season?

I came into this knowing people from my actual life. So I primarily know my dear friend Victoria, and I knew Nicole. I will say I’ve sort of, in most way, shape or form, managed to build new friendships with people and maintain the ones that I had, and I think I’m on good terms with everyone at the moment.

It’s rare to film a Housewives season and end up still friends with everyone, so that’s great! Have you watched seasons one and two? Who are some of the cast members that surprised you, either in negative ways or positive ways in this season?

My surprise came in the form of something positive, whereby maybe people that I had thought we wouldn’t connect as much, we did! I was really pleasantly surprised by my relationship with Kate. We got along really well. We’d never met before and our interaction was really positive.

Kate’s awesome! I loooove her. Have you happened to have watched Melbourne at all?

Sure have!

Have you met any of those girls?

No, I have not.

I would love to one day see a crossover. You know how the overseas Housewives do Ultimate Girls Trips? It would be so cool to do an Aussie version!

Oh that would be amazing!

Who are your favourite Melbourne Housewives?

I really love Gina Liano. I enjoy watching Lydia [Schiavello] as well. I just think the cast is great from Melbourne. I think that they’ve just nailed that. It’s a bit like cooking, not that I cook, it’s a bit of a recipe, right? And if all the ingredients are right, it’s great! So I think they’ve done a really good job, 100 per cent.

Who are your favourite Real Housewives from other cities?

She’s not on it anymore, but I really love Bethenny [Frankel]. I love that whole original New York cast. I have enjoyed many of the girls from Salt Lake City. I think that’s a great franchise. Lisa Barlow is pretty funny, and I love Heather Dubrow from Orange County.

Nice, great selection. Those are a few of my favourites as well.

What’s something about being a Real Housewife that you weren’t prepared for? Something about the whole process that, yeah, you weren’t that surprised you?

I was surprised by how much real life morphs with show life… it’s not as separate as you may think.

There’s no word yet on whether or not a reunion is happening, but would you be keen if there was one?

Absolutely! A reunion is an exciting conclusion, right? And I think it can offer an opportunity for resolution. So I actually think that leading into a reunion would be more hopeful for us.

And final question, are you nervous for the show to come out? Are you feeling confident in how everything’s gone down?

I am really excited. I feel confident. No one is perfect in this show, but I feel confident that  the person presented is me. We all showed up and gave our best, and I think that’s the most you can ask for. It’s actually really hard to be on this show, but that’s one of the things that was far more challenging than I would have thought. And every one of us showed up, made themselves vulnerable, gave all of themselves on screen, and I just think that’s the best outcome you can ask for. So I’m really excited.

The Real Housewives of Sydney season three premieres on Tuesday, 25 February, at 1:30pm AEDT on BINGE and Foxtel, with new episodes dropping weekly.
