Real Betis fans clash with police in ugly scenes during Manchester United's Europa League win

Manchester United's Europa League victory over Real Betis was marred by ugly scenes in the away end.

Betis supporters clashed with police in the closing stages of the last 16 first-leg tie, which United won 4-1. Police were forced to intervene as a section of the away end appeared to try and break into the home stands by climbing over the barriers.

The catalyst seemed to be United's fourth goal, scored by Wout Weghorst, which gives Erik ten Hag's side a commanding advantage in the tie. Riot police intervened in the away end to help quell the disorder.

On the pitch, United were commanding winners after a fine second half saw them score three times without reply. Marcus Rashford had given the home side an early lead but Leicester City loanee Ayoze Perez levelled for Betis before the break.

Antony restored the advantage shortly after the break before Bruno Fernandes and Weghorst sealed the victory. The second leg takes place in Spain next week with a place in the last eight on the line.
