Resident Evil Village’s brand new DLC expansion includes Shadows of Rose, a short but incredibly sweet campaign that’ll see you returning to a few familiar locations from the main game. One of those locations is Castle Dimitrescu, home of Lady Dimitrescu. Only this time, the lady is out of the house, and the merchant has been left in charge. The problem is, he’s evil, and hunting girls called Rose.
The mutamycete mold has taken control of the house, and in order for Rose to escape, she must fight the molded creatures and find three masks. In order to find those masks, just read through our guide below. We’ve listed all of the secrets you need to find, and the all-important masks.
Finding the Cell Key, Switch Handle, escaping the dungeon – Shadows of Rose
The intro to the game is pretty linear, so we’ll keep this simple and easy for you to follow. Exit the Laboratory and follow the path. You can check side rooms for notes and extra context. You will eventually find a voice locked behind a door. Move to the right and again follow the linear path to find the Cell Key.
Upon opening the cell you’ll meet a girl identical to yourself. Follow her. Eventually you’ll come to a room with multiple cells, and more girls that look just like you. To activate the nearby switch, you’ll need a Switch Handle. Again, follow the only available path and crouch throw the hole in the wall to find the Switch Handle. Once you return you can use the Switch Handle, but you will be pursued by an enemy while the door slowly opens. Avoid the foe, and then run down the path once it’s finally open. Don’t get fooled by the message pointing you towards a wall instead of the stairs on the other side – once you finally get through this long path, you be inside Castle Dimitrescu.
Once inside the castle, Rose will encounter the merchant, who will send monsters after Rose. As the encounter begins run down the stairs, and follow the path to the left. Ignore foes, just keep running towards the exit. Trapped inside, Rose’s new friend Michael will gift you with a LEMI pistol to shoot down those molded monsters. Now you can head back to the Main Hall, and you’ll find the Merchant is gone. Instead, you’ll find the statue that requires three masks and a typewriter. You can consider this to be your main safe room.
Bronze Mask, Bolt Cutters, Power Amplifier – Shadows of Rose
First, go through the double doors into the Dining Room, and then move left to make your way to the Kitchen. You can’t get the Shotgun yet. Watch for enemies inside. In the room behind the Kitchen you’ll find the Bolt Cutters, which you can then use to open the Courtyard door in the Dining Room. The first mask is in the center of the Courtyard, but you must learn to destroy the mold cores in order to reach it. Take the left door to exit the Courtyard, and go up the stairs.
Follow the only available path and you’ll make your way through the Library, which is filled with molded creatures. Upon reaching the room at the end of the hall, take the left path up the stairs and push down a ladder to cross the mold sludge. Move through the frame and the gap in the wall, and head up the ladder. The “Power Amplifier” you need to break the mold cores is a blue jar you can find in a room up here. After, you can use R1 to focus, and this will break mold cores as long as you are within range. This will allow you to open up many of the doors and paths you’ve been past so far.
Use your mold powers to make your way back to the Courtyard the same way you came, making sure not to miss the pistol upgrade on your way. Once in the Courtyard, you can break the mold cores and grab the Bronze Mask, which you can take back to the statue in the Main Hall.
Silver Mask, Painting Puzzle, Monocular Key – Shadows of Rose
Now that you can break mold cores, many rooms in the castle have opened up to you. Your next target will be finding the Monocular Key so you can find the next mask, but you can also access the Gallery and make your first attempt at the painting puzzle, which is a necessary part of the game.
Make your way down the corridor on your right after climbing the staircase in the Grand Hall. The Hand-Drawn Map can be found on the floor here, and will indicate that the Monocular Key is in a bedroom, but getting to it is difficult, and you’ll have to run from a monster. When in the room, wait for Michael to point out the Fireplace before crouching and moving through. In the next area you’ll find another “Power Amplifier,” an RW-Variant Flask. You can now focus on enemies to use a portion of power to stun them, if ammo is low and you feel it necessary.
Once you make it back to the room you were trapped in, you can escape, but there are many enemies outside. You’re unlikely to be able to defeat them, so stun them with your new abilities and make your way through. Reference the Hand-Drawn Map and your main map in order to make your way to the room with the Monocular Key in. You’ll find it next to a book in the Dressing Room. Now that you have the Monocular Key, you can get the second pistol upgrade.
To continue, use the Monocular Door in the Courtyard. Follow the path to find your way towards Dimitrescu’s Bedchamber. Make your way into the Hall of Ablution, and you’ll find a statue puzzle. Complete it to open the passage and continue.
The Dungeon you drop into is nasty. In here it’s a mostly narrow path with a few mold cores you must break while either sneaking past or fighting molded foes. Staying still for too long is a death wish, and you must keep moving. Although it’s high-tension, there aren’t many other paths to take, so as long as you keep moving forward you will find the Silver Mask at the end of the dungeon. You must exit the dungeon the same way you came in while being chased by multiple enemies, so use your stun powers to make it through.
Make sure to move through Dimitrescu’s bedroom as you exit and grab the Snake Painting. Once you return to the Courtyard, you’ll find a bunch more enemies to avoid. Luckily they won’t follow you into the Dining Room.
Gold Mask, Triocular Key, Prison puzzle – Shadows of Rose
Now that you have the Snake Painting, you can return the Gallery and complete the painting puzzle. This will reward you with the Triocular Key, with which you can also gain access to the Shotgun from the Dining Room.
To continue, head into the Courtyard and take the left door. You’ll see a Triocular Key door on your right, which will grant you access to the Opera Hall. The Gold Mask is in plain sight, but you won’t be able to reach it easily, since the floor is covered in mold. You can climb on a fallen piece of furniture though, and this is a hint as to how to reach the mask.
First, move around the far side of the mask on the ground floor, and then look to your left and up to find a core you can reach and break. This will drop another piece of furniture, allowing you to reach the core on the center of the far wall. Problem is, this will also spawn molded enemies. If you head upstairs and exit through the door in the side room, the enemies will stop being aggroed, giving you time to engage them one by one, making the fight easier.
Once the mold core on the wall is broken, you’ll be able to destroy the final mold core upstairs – only this is guarded by, you guessed it, more enemies. You can destroy the core and run from them to grab the Gold Mask, if you want to conserve ammo. Only, now, Rose will get kidnapped. In order to make it out of the next challenge alive, check out our prison puzzle guide. Make your way out of the dungeon, and you’ll find yourself back in the Kitchen again, able to easily return to the Main Hall. to place the third and final mask.
Molded monster boss fight – Shadows of Rose
You place the mask, take the Purifying Crystal, and – oh – it was all a ruse, and you’re pulled into a boss fight against the giant molded brute that has been chasing you for much of the game so far. You can defeat it, but it’ll be tough. Each phase has a glowing weak point, and you can use your focus ability to stun it, or just keep moving around the room while popping off shots and throwing Pipe Bombs.
It has three phases in total. Each phase will change the layout of the stage thanks to mold sludge on the floor, and new enemies will be introduced. You can shoot the molded foes behind bars before they attack you if you shoot between the bars. Keep moving, destroy cores to open up paths, and make sure to defeat smaller molded creatures first, otherwise they will get in the way.
The third and final phase has the glowing weakpoint transfer to the foe’s back, making it much tougher to hit. You will need to use either Pipe Bombs or your focus power to stun it before unloading your ammo.
Once you’ve won, the Castle Dimitrescu portion of the game will be complete. But the next bit is much creepier. For what to do next, see our other Shadows of Rose walkthrough.
