RB Leipzig issue update on Christopher Nkunku's future amid Manchester United transfer links

Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig have no interest in selling Christopher Nkunku this summer amid ongoing links connecting him with a move to Manchester United.

The Frenchman has been in scintillating form for Leipzig this season, making him one of the most prized assets in European football. He has netted 32 goals and racked up 20 assists in 49 appearances in all competitions this term, making it the most decorated campaign of his career so far.

Unsurprisingly, his form has alerted a plethora of big-name clubs across Europe, who are expressing an interest in his signature ahead of the summer transfer window. United, who are poised to embark on a summer of transition in the not too distant future, are amongst those interested in the versatile attacker.

The Manchester Evening News understands that United are interested in Nkunku but are not pressing ahead with looking to finalise any transfer deals until incoming manager Erik Ten Hag has had a chance to have his say. Ralf Rangnick's connections with the Red Bull franchise are likely to have impacted the Reds' interest in Nkunku.

But despite United's interest in the 24-year-old, Leipzig are standing firm, insisting he will not be allowed to leave this summer. They hope to tie him down to a new contract.

Leipzig director Oliver Mintzlaff said: "We have clearly discussed it internally: we won't let Nkunku leave this summer, we told him and his agent."

Nkunku is contracted to the club until the summer of 2024 and, speaking earlier this season, reiterated his commitment to the Bundesliga club. He has been excellent since making that statement and interest in him has only soared.

"If I was thinking of other clubs, we might as well forget our season goals," Nkunku admitted, speaking back in October. "Big goals of our own are only realistic if we achieve something with Leipzig.

"Otherwise, these questions do not arise. I still have a contract until 2024 and I feel very comfortable at RB Leipzig."
