RB James Conner was one of best free agent signings of 2021

The Arizona Cardinals made one of the best moves in free agency last offseason. Their offseason addition of running back James Conner was an absolute steal. It was one of the biggest bargains in the entire league.

NFL.com’s Bucky Brooks had the signing of Conner as one of the 10 best free agent signings from last year.

Who would have expected Conner to post the second-most rushing touchdowns (15) in the league after joining the Cardinals on a one-year, $1.75 million deal? The veteran surprised the football world with his production and performance as a goal-line specialist with playmaking ability in the passing game. Conner’s emergence as a prolific scorer added a dimension to the offense that enabled Arizona to get out to a fast start on the way to securing a playoff berth.

Conner carried the offense in the second half of the season after DeAndre Hopkins went down with a hamstring injury and then a knee injury.

He had 752 total rushing yards and 1,127 yards from scrimmage, earning a Pro Bowl berth for the second time in his career.

Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury would love to have Conner back in 2022 but also knows that Conner has earned himself a nice contract. He hopes the Cardinals can afford both him and Chase Edmonds back.

One estimation of his market value in free agency has him worth a two-year deal for nearly $12 million.
